You know the old saying “A picture is worth a thousand words”, right? Well when it comes to your wedding photos this statement couldn’t be any truer. Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life. You’ve dreamt about it, planned long and hard for it, and you most definitely want the wedding photographs to reflect that, now and in many years to come.
Taking good photographs isn’t just about pointing a camera at something and clicking the button to capture the image. A good wedding photographer knows that their job is all about capturing the mood, feelings, atmosphere and emotions on the day. You want to look back at the pictures and feel as if you are right there again, reliving that special moment.
So how do you go about finding just the right person for this highly sought after role? Well we’ve narrowed it down to the 7 most important questions to ask your potential wedding photographer to help you decide.
1. Can we see a full sample of some weddings you have shot before?
Here you are looking to see the wedding from start to finish. This will give you a good idea of the whole mood and atmosphere that your wedding photographer creates.
2. How would you describe your style of photography?
You want to make sure that you are a perfect fit for each other and that they understand your needs for the day.
3. Will you personally be shooting my wedding, and will you be making use of a second shooter or assistant?
This will depend on the size of your wedding, but you want to make sure that every special moment is captured. Having a second pair of eyes and another lens floating around the room makes it much easier to capture anything that one wedding photographer alone may miss.
4. What does your package include and how long does it take for us to receive our proofs and final pics?
Here you want to make sure you get enough photos to cover your special day. Bearing in mind that editing is quite a manual process, you still want to be able to see some photos quite soon afterwards to share with friends and family. Make sure you know if you will be receiving them in digital format or as hard copies.
5. Do you have a backup plan if you get sick on the day or something happens to your equipment?
This is a super important question. Your wedding photographer needs to ensure that you are comfortable at all times, and that means having a plan B in the case of an emergency. Any kind of disaster on the day can cause very unnecessary stress.
6. What is your plan for the day?
Your chosen wedding photographer should have a good idea of how they will proceed for the day. The whole event needs to be covered, from before the guests arrive to well into the reception party. And you also want them to come up with some ideas for special shots that will create fun memories.
7. Will we receive a proper written contract before we proceed?
Take the time to make sure that you do things the right way. No word of mouth or dodgy deals because this will be a day you never want to forget.
